She graduated in 1975 with a B.S. in Elementary Education and a minor in
Special Education. Susan spent her junior and senior year of college in the Teacher Corp program which allowed
her to student teach on site at Lennox, SD.
She then worked for Lennox Schools until 1980, when
Susan began teaching speech therapy to aide the speech pathologist at Freeman Elementary School. After taking a six year break from teaching to raise a family,
Susan taught as a special education instructor for fourteen years at Freeman Elementary School again as a resource teacher for grades K-6 and two colonies. In 2000
she began teaching fifth and sixth grade at Freeman Academy.
Susan met her husband, Reed, while teaching in Lennox
and moved to the Freeman area in 1977 to begin farming.
Daughter, Amber and son, Nicklaus, both attended
Freeman Academy. Freeman Academy has increased
Susan's faith and helped her to apply God’s principles to
her daily life.
She enjoys family gatherings, baking, gardening, singing, watching TV, going out to plays and concerts, socializing, reading, and walking.
She also is in church choirs and sings in groups like Swiss Choral Society.
