South Dakota All State Band

Three students from FA have been chosen by live audition to participate in the South Dakota All State Band to be held in Watertown in March: Karina Ortman, junior, 1st chair oboe, Lillie Koerner, junior, 8th chair French horn, and Carl Lehmann, senior, 4th chair alto saxophone. Regional NC-ACDA Honor's Choir

Six high school students from Freeman Academy have been chosen to participate in the Regional NC-ACDA Honor's Choir to be held in Minneapolis, MN March 4-6. Students selected are: Aaron Tschetter, senior, Carl Lehmann, senior, Richard Friesen, senior, Kristin Waltner, junior, Brittney Ries, sophomore, and Lea Graber, freshman. One Act Play Earns Superior at State

Freeman Academy's One Act Play, "Twelve Angry Pigs," competed in the State One Act Competition on Saturday, January 6 at Brandon, South Dakota. The One Act received a Superior, and four members were recognized as Outstanding Individuals: Brittney Ries, Christina Hofer, Lillie Koerner, and Caroline Schrag.

Members of the One Act are: Lillie Koerner, Lauren Unruh, Natalie Butkus, Ben Carlson, Kristin Waltner, Aprille Hofer, Landon Miller, Lori Rensink, Aaron Tschetter, Seth Bjorkman, Caleb Epp, Sara Friesen, Christina Hofer, Brittney Ries, Lea Graber, Caroline Schrag, and Brennan Waltner as Little Boy Blue. Lights are run by Jeffrey Preheim, and the One Act is directed by Gwen Ortman.

Middle School All State Band Students Chosen

Four students have been chosen by recorded audition to participate in the 2010 South Dakota Middle School All State Band. Students in grades 6-8 are eligible to audition. The All State will be held March 5-6 at Riggs High School in Pierre.

Festival Band

  • Brooklyn Ries, 7th Grade - 6th Chair Trumpet
  • Bethany Wollman, 6th Grade - 9th Chair Trombone

Oral Interp Students Participate in State Competition

Nine students represented Freeman Academy at the State Oral Interp Festival on Friday and Saturday, December 4th and 5th.  Those receiving superiors were:

Readers Theatre: Lauren Unruh, Aaron Tschetter, Jaden Miller, Kristina Waltner, Aprille Hofer, Lea Graber
Serious Prose: Lauren Unruh – “My Mother’s Touch”

Those receiving excellents were:

Humorous Prose: Christina Hofer – “Remotely Related”
Duet Interpretation: Alicia Hofer & Lori Rensink – “The Spot”
Poetry Interpretation: Aprille Hofer – “Peace Poems”

Freeman Academy also received a team excellence award at the state festival. The oral interp team is coached by Pastor Todd Jones.

SDSU Elementary Honors Choir

The following students have been selected to participate in the 2010 SDSU Elementary Honor's Choir held in Brookings, SD in February:

Freeman Academy will have an outstanding 20 instrumentalists representing it at Yankton's Region One Honor Band. The Honor Band will be held all day Monday, November 23 with a concert in the evening at Yankton High School.

South Dakota High School Honor's Choir 2009

Eight students have been selected from FA to participate in the 2009 SD High School Honor's Choir: sophomores - Kristin Waltner, Lauren Unruh, Karina Ortman, André Eisenbeis; juniors - Aaron Tschetter, Carl Lehmann, Aprille Hofer, Alicia Hofer.  The Honor's Choir will be held July 26-31 at Northern State University, Aberdeen, South Dakota.   

Tripp Middle School Music Contest 2009

Freeman Academy students had a great showing at the Middle School Music Contest held in Tripp on May 1.  Overall, out of 68 entries, there were 18 Superior Plus ratings, 42 Superior ratings, three Superior Minus ratings, one Excellent Plus rating, and four Excellent ratings.  For the complete results, see below.

Eight students have been selected from Freeman Academy to participate in the 2009 High School All State Band: Sara Brockmueller - 1st Chair Flute, Jordan Ortman - 1st Chair Tenor Saxophone, Skyler Newcomb - 2nd Chair Trombone, Andy Miller - 2nd Chair Alto Saxophone, Karina Ortman - 2nd Chair Oboe, Carl Lehmann - 3rd Chair Alto Saxophone, Lillie Koerner - 6th Chair French Horn, and Lauren Unruh - 16th Chair Clarinet.  The All State will be held in Rapid City March 26-28.

State B One Act Competition 2009

Freeman Academy's One Act Play, Silent Snow, Secret Snow, dramatized by Tim Kelly & S. Carle (Original author: Conrad Aiken), performed on February 6 at the State One Act competition held in Sioux Falls. The One Act Play received a superior, the highest ranking awarded high school One Acts. Other awards received are: Outstanding Individuals - Richard Friesen, Christina Hofer, Kristin Waltner; Ensembles - Students Ensemble (Karina Ortman, Lillie Koerner, Olivia Kauth, Zachary Graber, Will Chao) and Snow Ensemble (Andrew Koerner, Lauren Unruh, Brittney Ries, Natalie Butkus, Cheyenne Arbach).
